It was a beautiful day at Lyon’s Park with Rotarians setting up tables, chairs and preparing food for our guests. Many family members that lost their loved one to the tragic tsunami and earthquake on Sept. 29, 2009, with members of the public and our members to participate in the memorial service. President Jackie Young presided over the service and introduced Pastor Sepi who delivered a moving sermon on the need to value the lives of those who have passed, but also to value and appreciate the lives around us. His prayer of remembrance touched the hearts of all of us that was there. Many testimonials were given in recognition of this special day. A keynote speaker for the families was Rep. Steve Leasiolagi who spoke eloquently of his mother that was a victim of the tsunami and recognized the special day of remembrance with the beautify setting with the Pala Lagoon and the mountains. He said that it was a sorrowful day and it was personally hard on him when he thinks of the loss of his mother. His emotional presentation moved many of those present. The food that was donated by company that are friends of Rotary was prepared and served to all. There was also uncooked food, breads, snacks and soft drinks, that were donated the same day to the Catholic Hope House that cares for the elderly and for those who are severely disabled, including many children. Thank you again for all the members that put in their time and their individual effort to make this day a success. Many of the guests thanked Rotary and Hawaiian Air for hosting the memorial services.
