DG WILLARD MARTIN TO VISIT AM. SAMOA ON NOV.6&7, 2013

10-12-13 Hello, It appears that Willard Martin will be visiting Apia during their Melbourne Cup program to be held on November 5th. He would like to come to American Samoa for his visit on Wednesday and Thursday of that week, our November 6th & 7th. We will need to have a Board meeting on Wednesday evening then the normal weekly meeting on Thursday afternoon before he flies out. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend both functions. ROTARY CLUB OF PAGO PAGO MEETING 10/4/2013

Minutes of Meeting, October 04, 2013 Present: President Dennis Wellborn, IPP Jackie Young, Treasurer Jim Mahoney, Lenita Pritchard, Billy Young, Peter Crispin, Margie Tafiti, ROTY Roy Hall, Jason Pritchard, Rven Garcia, Steve Watson, Chris Bullinger, Will Sword, Joe Weilenman, Joe Yandall, Tom Drabble, Sargent Tom Atkinson Guest: Celestine Nicks Our guest speaker was Celestine Nicks who gave us a very informative talk on Human and Social Services Programs which cover Childwelfare Advocacy, Abused and neglected children, emotional and sexually affected women, Adoption and Foster care, battered women which also involves the neighboring islands as well. They have a shelter for victims under 18 who Chris Bullinger will be presenting Rotary dictionaries to. They currently have 8 clients who all differ in age. The youngest is a 2 year old disabled infant who they have been trying to get into Hope House but unfortunately this child is on a waiting list. ROTY Roy Hall mentioned that he had in the past help get a young child admitted into Hope House and that if there is any way Rotary can be of assistance to let him know. She thanked Rotary for their interest in wanting to help with the shelter by offering DVDs, TV’s etc but says that they are well equipped. If anyone would like to donate what they could do with is laundry soap, diapers, wipes, etc. Jim Mahoney suggested she make contact with Ronald McDonald Homes to see if they could be of any help to her program. Chris reported that he had a discussion with Bill Haleck, Director of Public Safety regarding Youth and Women who handle the Juvenile program. He will also be meeting with Roy Asuega and Mara Brown with Youth and Womens Affairs and will be donating dictionaries to them this Friday. A big Thank

TSUNAMI REMEMBRANCE SERVICE, SAT., SEPT. 28, TSUNAMI SHELTER PARK

The Rotary Club of Pago Pago and Hawaiian Air joined ASG Human Social Services and family members, friends and guests at the Rotary Club & Hawaiian Air Tsunami Family Park Shelter to remember family members and friends that were victims of the Tsunami that struck Am. Samoa on Sept. 29, 2009. The attendance was well represented by over 200 family, friends and guests. Rotary Corporate sponsors provide lunch for all those that attended the service.     Talanei News Report Posted: Monday, 30 September 2013 8:27AM Hawaiian Air & Rotary Club memorial Lyons Park was the venue for another memorial for tsunami victims.  Singing, sharing, donations and words of consolation were all part of a special tsunami memorial shelter fellowship sponsored by the Hawaiian Airline, the Rotary Club of Pago Pago with the support of the ASG’s Department of Parks and Recreation last Saturday at the Lyon’s Park in Tafuna. The event marked the 4th year anniversary of the earthquake-triggered tsunami which tragically claimed 34 lives in American Samoa and hundreds in neighboring Samoa. One of the highlights of the special ceremony was the presentation by the One Global Family’s Founder and CEO, Mrs. Laura Ava Tesimale and its partners, the Samoa Victim Support Group & Give Light Foudation. More than ten children whose parents died in the 2009 tsunami recieved checks of $200 each to help with  their education. Jim has updated Rotary membership list and magazine subscription so if you still don’t receive one let him know. BBQ Shelter for Tsunami Peter has painted bbq shelter and seesaw at playground fixed. Faafetai Peter! Discussed chores for shelter event. Done. Swimming Pool Joe W reported on swimming pool. Director of Commerce very supportive of project and says there is funding availbale. Many applicants but Rotary has an actual plan on hand which is a plus. Public Works to put in storm drains so will need to make adjustments to plan. They will hold a meeting when Director gets back. Dictionary Jim has ordered dictionaries and they may be released early.Internal shipping costs included. Bill to organize shipping to AS. Hope House All items ordered. To be shipped down by ICS. X-Mas Trees Bill Maxey has ordered X-Mas trees which are scheduled to arrive Nov. 24th. Calendar Billy advises calendar now ready for marketing. If everyone could do their bit in buying or selling some calendars to friends or businesses. 4500 calendars to sell. Already sold 1500. If you would like advertising on bottom of calendar for family pics, etc. please talk to Jason Pritchard. Any questions re: calendar purchases ask Billy, Jason or Margie.
